    2016 - Yersinia isolates

The pathogenicity of Biotype 1A remains the subject of international debate whereas biotype 1B is a recognised cause of severe illness.

Over the last two years we have seen a significant shift in our historically predominant type - Y enterocolitica biotype 4 - to Y enterocolitica biotype 2.

Multiple Locus Variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) was performed on a number of Y enterocolitica biotype 2 isolates to assist in linking cases.

A number of high risk factors and high risk foods were identified when detailed food histories were obtained.
